MARCAPÁGINAS

We invite you to join our Spanish Reading Club: MARCAPÁGINAS (bookmark in English)—a space designed to enjoy contemporary Hispanic literature, share ideas, and practice the language in a relaxed and engaging atmosphere.

Each month, we read a short story or brief work written in modern, accessible Spanish. Authors like Gabriel García Márquez, Isabel Allende, Julio Cortázar and Juan Rulfo guide us through a journey of language, culture, and emotion across the Spanish-speaking world.

The readings are carefully selected to offer a variety of styles—realistic, magical, intimate, or thought-provoking—but always written in authentic, vivid Spanish that helps you get familiar with different registers and expressions.

Plus, to support your learning, you will receive an analysis guide prepared by a professional literature expert to help you better understand the text and prepare your contributions for the discussion. We also provide additional materials regarding our monthly reading to enrich your reading experience and boost your Spanish skills.

Who can join?

Everyone is welcome to join the club!

That said, the club is mainly designed for people with at least an intermediate level of Spanish (B1 or B2). This means you can already read texts with some fluency, understand main and secondary ideas, and express yourself with a certain level of ease—even if you still make mistakes (like we all do!). With this level, you’ll be able to enjoy the readings and take an active part in the conversations: sharing your thoughts, asking questions, and commenting on what caught your attention.

However, as said, everyone is welcome to join! If your Spanish level is more basic, it’s normal that the readings might take you a bit longer to understand, and that following the conversation during our meetings could feel challenging at first. You may find it difficult to participate actively or speak much in the beginning, and that’s completely fine. Remember, just by listening carefully, you will learn a lot. As you get more comfortable and confident over time, you’ll naturally start joining the discussions more and more.

Curiosity, motivation, and the desire to learn are what matter most.
