 If you want to start your journey in learning Spanish, this course is for you. No prior knowledge is required — here you will take your first steps in the language and begin communicating from day one.

At this level, we cover content corresponding to the A1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), using Aula Internacional 1 as our main resource — an official textbook from the Instituto Cervantes. Each lesson is also complemented with additional materials created by our academy, designed to reinforce and practice everything you learn.

At our academy, learning is steady and structured. We ensure that you truly internalize what you study and that your progress is solid. That’s why we divide the A1 level into two courses:

· A1.1 (Getting Started) covers Units 0 to 5 of the book Aula Internacional 1.

· A1.2 (Mastering the Basics) covers Units 6 to 9 of the book Aula Internacional 1, along with a comprehensive review of the entire A1 level.

Of course, it’s not mandatory to take both courses; it depends on your level and goals. If you already know some Spanish, you may start directly with A1.2. On the other hand, you may complete one course and decide not to continue — and that’s perfectly fine. The important thing is that your learning adapts to you.

In our courses

In our classes, you’ll enjoy dynamic online lessons led by a native teacher in small groups. Small groups let us provide personalized attention, plenty of chances to speak, instant feedback, and a supportive environment where every question is welcome.

For class materials, you’ll need the book AULA Internacional 1, a resource endorsed by the Instituto Cervantes, which we use for both of our A1 courses: A1.1 and A1.2. Plus, our academy provides extra materials—our teachers always share supplementary resources to help you practice and improve your Spanish.

As a student of El Camino, you will also have access to El Café, our optional weekly conversation class. It’s a relaxed space where you can practice speaking, have the chance to meet other classmates and teachers, and immerse yourself in a specific topic using vocabulary and expressions prepared by the teacher. Each week features a new topic, giving you the chance to explore something different while improving your Spanish in a practical and enjoyable way.

This means that, in addition to the 24 hours of the main course, you’ll have the opportunity to add one extra hour of conversation each week at no extra cost (12 additional hours in total!!) where you can practice and build your language skills.

By the end of the A1 Spanish level, you will have the essential tools to communicate in everyday situations. You’ll be able to introduce yourself and hold a short conversation when meeting someone new, order a coffee at a café, or do basic shopping in a store or market, asking about prices and requesting what you need. You will also be able to ask for directions in a Spanish-speaking city and make simple plans, suggesting a time and place to meet. Besides that, you will understand simple expressions in songs or movies and talk about your likes, the weather, food, or your free time.
